New Mexico State University is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Undergraduate Admissions team as an Admissions Advisor! As an Admissions Advisor, you’ll play a key role in guiding prospective students through the admissions process, sharing the incredible opportunities NMSU has to offer, and representing the university at events, high schools, and community gatherings. This position requires a high volume of travel and in-person attendance at a variety of recruitment events, making it ideal for individuals who enjoy being on the move and engaging with diverse communities.

Classification Summary:
Serves as an ambassador and representative of the University or Community College with a variety of audiences, including prospective students and their families, applicants, newly admitted students, P-12 school district students and staff, community college students and staff, business and other community members, University faculty and staff, and alumni. Responsible for managing respective recruitment territory, which includes extensive fall travel during the six to eight week long recruitment season. Guides prospective students and their families through the application process. Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with key constituencies in recruitment territory. Responsible for assisting with all areas of admission including undergraduate, transfer, graduate and international recruitment, marketing and communications, event planning, Aggie Welcome Orientation programming, family engagement activities, campus visits, etc.

Classification Standard Duties:
As appropriate to the position, reviews and processes Participate in the planning and implementation of annual admission recruitment, application and enrollment strategies. Develop marketing strategies, recruitment publications and communications, travel schedules, collection and analysis of aggregate and disaggregate recruitment and demographic data. Conduct campus tours, formal and informal presentations, tele-recruiting and e-recruiting. Collaborate with University departments, faculty & staff.. Disseminates pertinent information, in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and University policies in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Advises students and families regarding educational opportunities and options, admission, orientation, registration, and other requirements, policies and procedures. May determine Non-Degree and Freshman admissibility to the university or community college. Extensive travel may be required, depending on recruitment territory assignment. Provides policy interpretation and advisement as appropriate, in accordance with university policy, accreditation standards, and privacy laws.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of current industry best practices, customer service standards and procedures, system-wide admissions policies, standards, and procedures. Knowledge of full spectrum of university academic units, curricula, and programs. College-level maintenance requirements for student records principles, policies and procedures. Knowledge of national, regional and local student recruitment and retention issues.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, especially in public speaking. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of computer software applications. Demonstrated time and materials management skills. Effective utilization of student information systems and customer relations management systems. Database and records management and/or maintenance skills. General office administrative and secretarial skills.; ABILITIES:Solutions oriented, with a high level of creativity and the ability to analyze complex problems. Ability to work independently, under pressure and with minimum supervision in addition to being a productive member of a team. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to simultaneously plan, deliver and manage multiple activities,make effective administrative/procedural decisions and recommendations. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities. Ability to deliver excellent customer service, travel and work flexible hours.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Plans and organizes student admission, orientation or registration functions for the central university division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Serves as a primary point of representation and liaison with respect to student recruitment, orientation and retention programming. Reviews and compiles student applications and data university wide. Participates in the generation of program resources and in the design and development of the program operating goals, objectives, and protocols. May be responsible for maintaining official academic records, evaluating transcripts, advising potential students on admissions, orientation and registration requirements and options, and administers applicable student policies.

The candidate must be able to accommodate a high volume of travel and maintain flexible availability during peak travel seasons. A valid driver’s license is required.
