Classification Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer, provides physical therapy and assists in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Provides trainer coverage of athletic activities, organizes orthopedic clinics, advises on prevention and care of athletic injuries, and team-teaches athletic training classes. May supervise student trainers.

Classification Standard Duties:
Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff; Prevention of athletic injuries and illness; perform physical exams, equipment fittings, physical conditioning screenings, control environmental risks, and health hazards, etc; Injury recognition, assessment and immediate care; determine severity and course of action of care including medical referral; Treatment and rehabilitation of injuries; individual plan for medical care and rehabilitation with goal to return to sport participation in optimal time; Counseling and guidance; provide health care information and referral to student-athletes, parents , and athletic and medical staffs; Emergency situation assessment and management; prepare and execute plans for life-threatening or life-changing situations; Organization and administration of athletic training program; maintain records, daily operation of facilities, follow safety and sanitation standards; Clinical supervision of athletic training students; Perform related duties as required

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:Bachelor's degree in a related field.; Required Experience:Three (3) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:None; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of university and department policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; knowledge of information specific to sports medicine; knowledge of federal, state, conference, and NCAA regulations, legalities, standards, and liabilities; knowledge of current practices and latest research in the field of sports medicine.; SKILLS:Skills in short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; oral and written communication.; ABILITIES:Ability to direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist Head Athletic Trainer in providing care to student-athletes. Assist in administration of athletic training room; coverage at practices and competitions; injury prevention; daily treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. Assist in supervision of Graduate Assistants.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is performed in an interior medical/clinical environment.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
