Summary:  We are seeking a dynamic educator to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Range Science program, and conduct applied research to improve the understanding of watershed dynamics and management in relation to soils, vegetation, and the environment

Classification Summary:
The Range Science program in the Department of Animal and Range Science supports education, research, and outreach activities with focus on natural and managed ecosystems typical to those of the western United States

Classification Standard Duties:
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Range Science program, and conduct applied research to improve the understanding of watershed dynamics and management in relation to soils, vegetation, and the environment

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Ph.D. in Watershed Science, Hydrology, Ecohydrology, Range Science, or a closely related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated experience establishing a successful research program related to rangeland hydrology and ecology.
• Evidence of scholarly outcomes, including publication in refereed journal articles.
• Demonstrated experience teaching watershed management and other range science courses.
• Evidence of successful engagement with stakeholder groups, including producers and state and federal agencies, to address specific topics of interest leading to improved land management decisions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent is expected to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate student research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in university, professional, and societal service needs.
The person in this position will conduct applied research to improve the understanding of watershed dynamics and management in relation to soils, vegetation, and the environment. The incumbent is expected to conduct research in natural and managed ecosystems typical to the western United States, such as rangelands and croplands. The incumbent is expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Range Science program at NMSU, particularly those related to natural resources, hydrology, and watershed management.
Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center for Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS.)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing and/or teaching "distance education" courses in the Range Science discipline.
• International research collaborations leading to scholarly outcomes.
• Working knowledge in cross-disciplinary research addressing societal topics of interest related to the hydrology of managed and/or natural ecosystems.
• Leadership in professional society roles that contribute to enhancing and promoting the Range Science discipline.
• Experience in using remote sensing data and tools as well as data science.
• Commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity as well as the land-grant
mission.
