Summary:  The Department of History at New Mexico State University is seeking applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor of environmental history in the western hemisphere (19th or 20th centuries).

Classification Summary:
The Department of History at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of environmental history in the western hemisphere (19th or 20th centuries), beginning in August 2026. We especially welcome applications from candidates whose expertise includes the history of climate change and natural disasters, the borderlands region, labor history, and/or the history of empire and imperialism, as well as experience in teaching the World History II survey.

Classification Standard Duties:
Standard duties for tenure-track (9-month) faculty include maintaining a strong research program; teaching three courses per semester, including at least one general education survey course as well as topical undergraduate courses and graduate seminars; mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, including training graduate students and advising MA theses; and providing service to the department, college, and university.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
A PhD in history or environmental studies is required prior to appointment. ABD candidates may apply; however, the PhD must be in hand by August 2026.
