Summary:  The Department of Music seeks an active and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Piano in the fall semester of 2025.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Music at New Mexico State University seeks an active and highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills and a student-centered dedication to teaching to serve as a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor of Piano, beginning in the fall semester of 2025.

Classification Standard Duties:
Teaching - Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate (master’s level) applied piano and piano-related subjects (piano pedagogy/literature, chamber music coaching, collaborative piano, etc.), form and analysis, graduate/undergraduate music history or theory (depending on candidate expertise), and coordinating the piano area.

Research – Appropriate research activities include conference attendance/performance, publications, and collaborative performances with NMSU music faculty and graduate students.

Service – Lead student recruitment efforts through building and maintaining innovative, productive relationships with appropriate programs. Assist in development of a collaborative piano degree program. Participate in departmental and university committees and other university activities as assigned.

Outreach – Build and maintain productive relationships with applicable programs.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Doctorate in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano is required. Some experience with jazz styles and improvisation is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate will be an active classical performer with national/international recognition, demonstrated excellence teaching piano at the collegiate level, the ability to teach music theory or music history at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. In addition, the successful candidate should be able to articulate an innovative recruiting plan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Submit a letter of interest outlining the candidate’s qualifications for the position, a curriculum vita, at least five references with full contact information, and a web link to a YouTube channel containing recent performance recordings.

Preferred Qualifications

Some experience with jazz styles and improvisation is preferred.
