Summary:  We are seeking to fill the position of Assistant Rodeo Coach

Classification Summary:
To assist in the coaching and development of a quality Rodeo program, to provide care of livestock, and to maintain university rodeo facilities.

Classification Standard Duties:
Supervises, directs, delegates and evaluates work of assigned staff. Assisting Rodeo Coach. Mentoring/Directing/Interacting with Rodeo Student Athletes. Care/Feeding of Rodeo livestock. Production of practice & preparation. Production of events. Care/upkeep of facilities. Coaches during the competitive season. Assists with recruitment. Organizes equipment for team travel. Teaches skills and performs office related duties. Monitors equipment checkout and inventory. Helps promote and organize camps. Responds to complaints and grievances. Instructs and trains in methods and procedures.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience:Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of university and department policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; rodeo events; rodeo production; NIRA rules and regulations; livestock, facility and equipment management; and fund raising techniques.; SKILLS:Skills in short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; public contact and relations; organization.; ABILITIES:Ability to direct, evaluate, train and supervise the work of assigned personnel; communicate effectively in written and oral form; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with the supervision, direction and delegation of work of assigned staff. Recruiting of all rodeo athletes for the rodeo program. Instruction and coaching duties of all rodeo athletes for the rodeo program. Plans and coordinates fund raising activities for the rodeo program. Produces NMSU rodeo. Manage and care of livestock and maintain all university rodeo facilities. Establishes relationships that promote the rodeo program and economic development within the community. Ensures that all rules and regulations of NMSU and the NIRA are maintained. Procure and provide excellent care for all rodeo livestock associated with the NMSU Rodeo Program, and procurement of livestock for rodeo training and events. Provides 24/7 care of livestock and the rodeo facility and performs routine maintenance of the grounds. Coach University Rodeo team and provide program leadership. Supervise and schedule rodeo practice and coordinate rodeo activities with other NMSU activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Travel in and out of state required. Will require working evening and weekend hours as needed for care of livestock

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements: i.e. extreme temp, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precaution/protective equip

Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
