Summary:  Seeking a Senior Bridge Inspector to lead and actively participate in the inspection of bridges and culverts across New Mexico. This position is for a seasoned professional to serve as a team leader for field crews, ensuring all inspections meet National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).

Classification Summary:
Under general direction, performs an assortment of complex engineering duties such as the planning of manufacturing, and the installation, operation, and maintenance of complex apparatus. Provides existing support to activities in the use of devices and energy for commercial, domestic, and industrial use. Works directly with engineers in other disciplines to augment production size and value. May provide work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff.

Classification Standard Duties:
Carries out feasibility studies for new technical innovations. Draws up plans and specifications for moderately complex projects, using computer-assisted engineering and design software. Estimates material, construction, and labor costs, and project timescales. May coordinate the work of other engineers, technicians and craftspeople. Tests installations and systems, and analyzes data making sure projects meet applicable safety regulations. Oversees inspection and maintenance programs. Attends meetings, writes reports and gives presentations to managers and clients.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Bridge Inspector will coordinate, lead, and actively participate in the inspection of highway and railroad bridges, including culverts, across the state of New Mexico. This position serves as the team leader for field inspection crews and is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing inspections in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS). The role involves both technical oversight and hands-on inspection work, with an emphasis on safety, compliance, and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
• Supervise, train, and evaluate engineering interns participating in inspection activities. Serve as team leader for the inspection of major bridges utilizing under-bridge access units.
• Conduct field inspections of highway and railroad bridges using visual assessments and non-destructive testing techniques.
• Perform hands-on inspections of fracture-critical elements in non-redundant structures.
• Plan and manage inspections based on bridge condition, NBIS requirements, and safety priorities.
• Evaluate bridge components using mechanical, electronic, and surveying tools to assess structural integrity.
• Review and ensure the accuracy and completeness of inspection findings and condition assessments. Document inspection results through detailed notes, sketches, photographs, and standardized forms.
• Prepare and submit formal inspection reports in compliance with federal and state regulations. Oversee the procurement and inventory of materials, tools, and safety equipment for inspection operations.
• Collaborate with the NMDOT Bridge Management Unit on data submission, QA/QC processes, and system updates. Assist with quality assurance reviews of bridge inspection records and data validation tasks.
• Perform other duties assigned to support bridge safety and asset management efforts.

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
