Summary:  The Department of Biology at New Mexico State University is seeking to fill a college-track Assistant Professor position that will contribute to undergraduate instruction and advising.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Biology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a college-track Assistant Professor, beginning August 2026.

Classification Standard Duties:
• Teach undergraduate courses in lower division biology, genetics and microbiology courses as well as within their area of expertise.
• Advise undergraduate students with respect to their degree plans and academic progress and career pathways
• Serve on departmental and college committees
• Assist in the development of new undergraduate educational and research initiatives

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
• PhD in Biology or a related life science field
• Minimum of 1 year of college-level teaching experience
• Experience in the development and/or implementation of innovative teaching methods and materials

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of: 1) Teaching in areas of expertise (microbiology or introductory level cell and molecular biology); and 2) innovative and inclusive teaching practices
• Skills in: Effective teaching of undergraduate students, student advising
• Ability to: Direct evaluate, train and supervise the work of undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgement and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
