Classification Summary:
Under direct supervision, responsible for the cleaning and custodial care of buildings and working areas. Primary responsibility is for the use of proper methods and materials in cleaning and otherwise caring for building areas. Follows a well established routine. Performance is evaluated by periodic inspection of work areas. Frequently reports to a Custodian Supervisor.
Classification Standard Duties:
Dusts and mops floors. Vacuums carpets. Cleans restrooms and restocks paper and soap supplies. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and/or supplies. Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal. Locks doors after cleaning areas. May supervise the work of employees in supporting roles, including assigning workload and monitoring employee performance. May change light bulbs as directed. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Maintains adequate supplies for the day-to-day needs of custodial staff. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:None; Required Experience:Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.; Required Certification/License:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of custodial practices, machinery, and related equipment. Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.; SKILLS:Skilled in the performance of the duties outlined above.; ABILITIES:Ability to understand verbal instructions. Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to lead and train staff and/or students. Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
General Custodial and Cleaning maintenance in an Educational Institution Setting. Cleaning, Disinfecting, dusting, vacuuming, moping, sweeping. empty trash, clean marker boards, tables and chairs in preparation for start of classes. Cleaning and Disinfecting of Restrooms, water fountains and other high traffic "touch points" for general public Health safety. Participate as directed by supervisor in team cleaning events and Special event set up. attend regular training and safety classes as directed by supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience in the use of Commercial Cleaning machines, like scrubbers, carpet extractors and water pick up machines.

If Not a Standard Work Schedule: Depending on Campus assignment hours may be 5am to 2pm. 6am to 3pm or 7am to 4pm
Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
