Classification Summary:
Under direct supervision, performs work that is varied and moderate, and involves limited responsibility. Provides functional and empirical analysis related to the planning, installation, and implementation of the centralized university network infrastructure. Performs remedial maintenance of file servers and network devices. Anticipates and mitigates potential attacks through network or other connections to ensure the security of the system.
Classification Standard Duties:
Assists in the formation, development, and implementation of integrated network architectures for medium-to-large computer systems. Develops standards for computer and network systems, to include standards for wiring, equipment, system security, and routing protocol. Provides project management of technical staff in the implementation, installation, configuration, and technical support of computer and network architecture. Coordinates projects with other university departments and external organizations and agencies. Provides planning, leadership, direction, and advanced technical expertise regarding computer and network services for both local and wide area networks, and the worldwide INTERNET; serves as high-level technical expert in regards to computer/network systems and associated issues. Works with end users and vendors to resolve network hardware/software issues. Serves as primary point of contact and liaison with vendors; reviews vendor products, and coordinates and facilitates vendor interviews and presentations. Negotiates exact technical requirements with vendors; establishes contracts, and writes technical contract specifications and proposals. Delivers training classes and workshops in areas of computer and network systems. Installs, configures, and maintains computer and network operating system and application software, as appropriate; provides on-call support for computer/network systems as required. Maintains a broad knowledge of current and emerging state-of-the-art computer/network systems technologies, architectures, and products. May develop and administer end user training to achieve efficient utilization LAN/WAN. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education: Bachelors degree: Required Experience: One (1) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined; Equivalency: Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License: Equivalency: Associates Degree: Completion of a two-year degree may count as two years of experience, with an additional three (3) years of relevant work experience. GED: with five (5) years of directly related work experience.

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards. Knowledge of computer security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Computer/network systems planning skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to install, configure, and maintain personal computers, networks, and/or related hardware and software. Ability to analyze and assess computer/network architecture requirements and determine optimum, cost-effective solutions. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Providing technical assistance and formulate equipment configuration for client requirements. Executing the safe installation of hardware and cabling systems. Performing regular maintenance on network hardware and software. Monitoring the performance and capacity of the data network. Responding to network alerts and hardware malfunctions. Diagnosing and troubleshooting network and other system errors. Documenting accurate LAN/WAN mappings and equipment lists. Update and maintain our IPAM and Telreg database.

ITIL is preferred.
