Classification Summary:
The NMSU School of Nursing envisions a new purpose for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico (BCBSNM) Professor of Practice designed to meet the critical need for nurses in rural counties of New Mexico. The BCBSNM Professor of Practice will engage in community outreach that focuses on nursing workforce development. This individual will also work to expand the School of Nursing's teaching capacity and increase undergraduate nursing student enrollment, thereby adding additional nurses to New Mexico's workforce.

Classification Standard Duties:
Our goal is to develop a nursing career pipeline program for rural New Mexico including tribal
communities to include:
- Outreach and education about careers in healthcare.
- Recruitment of potential students for the nursing programs in rural and tribal communities.
- Establishing a mentorship program for students in the 'pipeline' program.
- Establish relationships with rural healthcare organizations and connect students back to their rural communities while they are at NMSU.
- Establish a method to collect and evaluate data measuring how many students attend NMSU, how many are accepted into the BSN program, and upon graduation, where students are employed.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
L. Plans, designs, and provides clinical and/or laboratory instruction which reflect an understanding of the program's objectives and curriculum (6 credits of teaching per semester).
2. Plans and executes outreach, recruitment, and mentoring activities for the NMSU School of Nursing's Rural and Tribal Communities Nursing Pathways program.
3. Evaluates student achievement of curricular and course objectives and learning outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.
4. Participates in advising and guidance of the students.
5. Assists in curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation.
6. Contributes to program, department, and college activities and initiatives including participating in program and department faculty meetings and serving on committees and participating in university functions.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by Associate Director for the Undergraduate program and School of Nursing Director.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
1. Master's degree in Nursing
2. Three years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience
3. Current New Mexico RN or APRN license, Nursing Licensure Compact state RN license, or eligible for New Mexico RN or APRN licensure.
4. ln good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
5. Experience living and/or working in rural communities preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Job Duties and Responsibilities
This is a full time, 9-month, non-tenure track position with the option for part-time summer semester employment. There is an option for the individual in this faculty position to work remotely if their permanent residence is in New Mexico. Travel to rural areas of New Mexico for outreach and recruitment activities will be required. Appointed rank will be determined upon review of qualifications.
