Classification Summary:
Reports to a centralized VPR division, provides proposal development support to enhance the ability of NMSU to conduct research and retain high-quality researchers and students. Supports large-scale, multi-million-dollar research proposal efforts that require coordination across colleges within NMSU and with other institutions.

Classification Standard Duties:
Identifies strategic funding opportunities. Supports faculty and research staff in the planning and development of proposals, including large interdisciplinary proposals, in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs): analyzing RFPs; providing proposal planning and coordination, including developing strategies and themes; ensuring that the proposal sections comply with RFP instructions; technical writing, editing, and proofreading; developing visuals; and reviewing proposals to provide guidance to faculty. Edits proposals and documents/publications. Reviews proposals to ensure compliance with RFP requirements and instructions. Develops boilerplate materials, brochures, and presentations. Organizes and participates in conferences, workshops, and meetings related to research endeavors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of proposal development process, including techniques for planning, organizing, and strategizing. Knowledge of federal funding sources and mechanisms. Knowledge of federal application requirements, policies, and procedures.; SKILLS:Strong skills in proposal development, writing, and editing for federal agencies. Excellent oral and written communication and organization skills, including presentation skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to work with minimum supervision on major proposals and projects alongside faculty and administrators. Ability to work with faculty and research staff with diverse research interests. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to priortize tasks and meet tight deadlines. Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Identify Strategic Funding Opportunities: Research and identify strategic funding opportunities from various sources.
Analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to determine alignment with NMSU's research goals.
Proposal Planning and Development: Assist faculty and research staff in planning and developing proposals, especially large interdisciplinary proposals. Develop proposal strategies and themes based on RFP requirements.
Ensure compliance with RFP instructions and guidelines.
Technical Writing and Editing: Provide technical writing, editing, and proofreading support for proposals, documents, and publications.
Develop visuals and graphics to enhance proposal content.
Review and Compliance: Review proposals to ensure compliance with RFP requirements, policies, and procedures.
Provide guidance to faculty based on proposal reviews.
Boilerplate Materials and Presentations: Develop and maintain boilerplate materials for proposals.
Create brochures and presentations to support proposal efforts.
Conference and Workshop Participation: Organize and participate in conferences, workshops, and meetings related to research endeavors.
Represent NMSU in events that contribute to proposal development and collaboration.
