Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Associate Athletics Director for Business & Revenue Sharing Operations serves as the primary financial leader for the department, functioning as the chief financial officer (CFO) for the Athletics program.
Financial Leadership & CFO Duties
Serve as the NMSU Athletics Department CFO, providing strategic financial guidance, short and long-range planning, and data-driven analysis to senior leadership.
Develop, manage, and monitor the Athletics department’s annual operating budget, ensuring accurate forecasting, financial discipline, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
Collaborate closely with the NMSU Vice President of Finance & Administration/CFO on financial reporting, audits, budgeting processes, and institutional alignment.
Revenue Sharing & Financial Operations
Oversee all aspects of revenue-sharing operations, ensuring accurate distribution, documentation, reconciliation, and compliance with internal and external requirements.
Develop revenue models, financial controls, and audit processes to support partner agreements and department revenue streams.
Provide strategic insights on revenue trends, partnership performance, and financial risks.
Business Office Oversight
Lead and manage the Athletics Business Office, including purchasing, payables, travel, and daily financial operations.
Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure efficient and compliant business workflows.
Supervise business operations staff and provide ongoing training, development, and performance management.
Employee & Third-Party Contract Management
Oversee the development, review, and execution of employee contracts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to university, conference, and NCAA guidelines.
Manage third-party vendor and service contracts, including negotiation, performance monitoring, and financial compliance.
Ensure all agreements are effectively tracked, maintained, and integrated into budget planning.
Foundation & Accounting Coordination
Work directly with the NMSU Foundation and relevant financial partners on all accounting matters, including reconciliation, gift processing, reporting, and financial stewardship.
Ensure alignment between departmental financial practices and foundation accounting standards.
Sport Administration
Serve as a Sport Administrator for selected programs.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree + 10 years of relevant experience, to include at least 2 years at senior management/executive Level. Master's degree or higher preferred.
