Summary:  We are seeking a passionate and experienced Assistant/Associate Professor to join our Industrial Engineering department at New Mexico State University.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) at New Mexico State University (NMSU) is searching for an outstanding applicant to fill (1) tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank for Fall 2024. Preference will be placed on applicants with research expertise aligns with our department’s strategic areas, including: 1) operations research and analytics; 2) systems and engineering management; and 3) advanced manufacturing. The candidates need to show potential to aggressively leverage opportunities at the state and federal levels, to develop and grow an impactful and sustainable research program, and to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, both in-person and online. The candidates should demonstrate a plan for successful collaborations with other faculty that fosters cross-disciplinary research. The expected rank is assistant professor; however, applicants with outstanding credentials may be considered at the rank of associate professor.

NMSU is a land- and space-grant institution with a student population that exceeds 15,000. NMSU is classified by Carnegie as a Doctoral University with Higher Research Activity and as a Community Engagement institution with a large body of Hispanic and Native American students. The IE department has strong undergraduate and graduate programs that continue to grow. The department offers B.S., M.S., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in IE. In 2023, its IE master’s degree programs were ranked #1 by four U.S. college assessment organizations. The department collaborates with the Center for Supply Chain Entrepreneurship (CSCE) and the Center of Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS). Its location in Southern New Mexico is unique and puts the IE department in close vicinity to the White Sands Missile Range, NASA-Johnson Space Center White Sands Test Facility, Spaceport
America Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Holloman and Kirtland AFBs, and Spaceport America. Famous for the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and historic Mesilla, a healthy climate, and affordable and safe living, Las Cruces with its strong Southwestern culture is an attractive choice to build a successful career.

Classification Standard Duties:
- Developing an internationally-renowned, externally and competitively-funded, independent research program;
- Teaching and developing courses for undergraduate and graduate students, both in-person and online;
- Advising students at undergraduate and graduate levels; and
- Participating in IE shared governance processes and service activities.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
- Ph.D. in industrial engineering, engineering management or a closely-related field. While not
mandatory, an undergraduate degree in engineering is preferred;
- Experience teaching online courses is a plus.

- Proven capacity or clear potential to successfully compete for competitive research funding;
- Demonstrated ability to produce scholarly archival publications;
- Expression of a strong dedication to undergraduate and graduate-level teaching;
- Commitment to inclusiveness for all students in teaching, learning, and advising.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
