Summary: We are seeking an Assistant Professor to collaborate with students, researchers, and faculty to enhance and accelerate research planning and data analysis and provide continuous guidance/training to faculty on up-to-date statistical methods relevant to the field.

RESEARCH—We design and conduct research to improve and create agribusinesses, enhance society’s economic well-being, and promote the sustainable management of natural resources.
EXTENSION—We serve the New Mexican public by providing objective, timely, and relevant information and training that supports decision-making in agribusiness and communities, fostering economic development and sustainability.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
A Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Statistics, or Agricultural Sciences with strong statistical training and experience (awarded by the hire date) is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence with specific evidence of: (1) expertise in statistical methods used in agricultural, consumer and environmental sciences, 2) the ability and interest to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in applied statistics for agricultural, consumer, and environmental science students (face-to-face and online formats), (3) an interest and ability to collaborate as a statistical consultant or lead within multidisciplinary research teams. The candidate must also show the ability to publish research in relevant, high-quality outlets; develop and sustain external funding; and advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Appointment is 50% research, 30% teaching, and 20% extension.
This position carries a joint appointment in the Departments of Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Business (AEAB) (tenure department) and Agricultural Extension Education (AXED), reinforcing the expectation for interdisciplinary engagement and impact.
Success in this position requires excellence and expertise in statistics applied to agricultural, consumer, and environmental sciences to strengthen the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) teaching and research efforts. The incumbent is expected to collaborate with students, researchers, and faculty to enhance and accelerate research planning and data analysis. Additionally, they will provide continuous guidance/training to faculty on up-to-date statistical methods relevant to the field. Outreach and service to stakeholders are also important components of all faculty members in the College of ACES. Excellence in teaching is required, including instructing two courses annually and serving on graduate committees for master's and Ph.D. students. The faculty member is also expected to contribute to the profession and serve on university, college, and departmental committees foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center for Excellence in Sustainable Food and Agricultural Systems (CESFAS.)
The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences is home to six other academic departments, five extension departments, approximately 150 faculty members, and 1,800 students. The AEAB department offers an undergraduate degree in two majors (1) Agricultural Economics and-Agricultural Business and (2) Natural Resource Economics and Policy and participates in the offering of four graduate degrees: A Master of Science in Agricultural Economics, a Master of Agriculture with an emphasis in Agribusiness, an MBA with specialization in Agricultural Business, and a Doctorate in Economic Development (DED) offered in conjunction with the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business in the College of Business.
