Summary: The New Mexico State University Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track Economics faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.
Classification Summary:
The New Mexico State University Department of Economics, Applied Statistics and International Business is seeking a candidate for a tenure-track Economics faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. New Mexico State University holds business and accounting accreditation by AACSB International. The opening is for a position beginning August 2025.
The Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business has about 25 full-time faculty members. It is one of five departments in the College of Business. The Department offers undergraduate majors in economics and international business, master’s degrees in economics and applied statistics, the Doctor of Economic Development (practitioner doctorate), and PhD in Applied Statistics. Excellence in teaching is expected. Departmental faculty members participate in scholarly activities, including funded and unfunded research and directing graduate student research. The College of Business has about 75 faculty members and approximately 1,600 majors. The College is fully accredited by AACSB. The College of Business is also home to the Center for Border Economic Development (cbed.nmsu.edu), the Center for Public Utilities (cpu.nmsu.edu), and other research centers. New Mexico State University is designated as Hispanic and minority-serving, and is the land-grant and space-grant institution of the State of New Mexico. The university has approximately 14,000 students at the Las Cruces campus, 58% are Hispanic.
Classification Standard Duties:
The successful applicant will have responsibilities in teaching, research, and service to the department, college, university, and community. The initial teaching course load will be 6 credit hours per semester. The candidate is expected to publish peer-reviewed articles in related fields, teach courses and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and provide institutional services. The position may include participation in distance education.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Ph. D. in Economics or related disciplines. Candidates must have the degree in hand by the date of hire. A field in International Economics (JEL classification F0) is required. Candidates with experience and interests in Macro Economics (E0), or Regulatory and Industrial Policy (L5), or Energy (Q0) are preferred.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate evidence of successful teaching experience and research productivity in economics either in a prior professional position or as a doctoral student.

Preferred Qualifications
This is a 9-month full-time position with knowledge of international economics (O0), with preference in macro-economics (E0) or regulatory and industrial policy (L5), or energy (Q0), to be used by the faculty in teaching, related research, and services to promote student learning and academic performance, faculty collaboration and professional development. A writing sample should be submitted with required application documents.
