Summary:  The Department of Psychology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Social Psychology with a Quantitative focus.

Classification Summary:
The Department of Psychology at New Mexico State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Social Psychology with a Quantitative focus, starting Fall 2026. NMSU is the nation’s only Land Grant Institution that is also classified as both a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and an R1 Carnegie High Research Activity Institution.

We are looking for a candidate whose research interests fall within the domain of Social Psychology, broadly construed, who can teach courses in the Graduate Curriculum’s statistics sequence, as well as more focused advanced topics statistics courses.

Classification Standard Duties:
Current faculty and graduate students have active research interests in cognitive, social, and applied areas of psychology. The successful candidate will value collegiality and service to the department and institution and will be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Psychology curriculum and serve as a research mentor to both graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
A Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Social Psychology or closely related area is required (in hand by hire date). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates should demonstrate in their application materials: 1) The ability to contribute to teaching Graduate Statistics (General Linear Model and more specialized courses) and Social-Area courses, and undergraduate courses on topics in Social Psychology and closely related areas including, but not limited to, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods courses; 2) A strong potential to make a significant impact in one or more research specialty areas. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate: 3) A strong potential for and commitment to compete for external funding; 4) An interest in and prospects for creative cross-disciplinary collaboration both within and across departments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in the Psychology curriculum, including but not limited to: Graduate Statistics (General Linear Model and more specialized courses) and Social-Area courses, and undergraduate courses on topics in Social Psychology and closely related areas (e.g., Developmental Psychology, Research Methods courses). Serve as a research mentor to both graduate and undergraduate students. Contribute to the service missions of the Department, College, and University.
