Summary: The college of Agricultural, Consumer Sciences & Environmental Sciences is searching for an Associate Dean/Director of Academic Programs,
Classification Summary:
The Associate Dean/Director administers the academic programs of the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences and is expected to work in person at the main campus with occasional travel.
Classification Standard Duties:
Major responsibilities include the planning, coordination; budgeting; monitoring of college teaching resources; and implementing effective plans for student recruitment, retention and graduation rates. The successful candidate is expected to be an advocate for the college, its students, faculty and staff at the university, state, and national levels. The Associate Dean/Director is administratively responsible to the Dean of the College and serves on the College Cabinet, Dean’s Department Heads Council, the University Associate Dean’s Advisory Council, and other committees as necessary.
Assist the Dean with the administration, and evaluation of the programs. Promote academic achievement and student satisfaction consistent with established education objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility. Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel. Responsible for assisting in the development and/or administration of budgets in areas of supervision. Seeks and pursues/motivates others to pursue potential sources of funding for the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Serve as liaison between the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and the university community, community agencies, businesses and other groups, advisory committees, state and national groups. Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate and Department of Education regulations. Seek/maintain degree program approval from licensing agencies, regional and national accreditation councils. Reports directly to the Dean of the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
· Tenured or tenurable at the rank of professor in a discipline represented within the College
of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences.
· A minimum of four years of experience as an academic department head or equivalent
administrative experience.
· Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students concerning teaching,
advising, recruitment, and retention.
· Evidence of effectiveness in communication with stakeholders (including interpersonal, social
media, and public speaking skills).
· Experience with curriculum development and academic program reviews.
· Demonstrated understanding of budget preparation, management, and compliance.
· Demonstrated interest in and ability to work with a diverse population and diverse academic
programs.
· Experience in faculty development, mentoring, and retention.
· Experience with conflict resolution techniques.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
· Coordinate the College’s recruitment, retention, advising, and ambassador programs.
· Facilitate resolution of faculty, staff, and student concerns/conflicts.
· Provide leadership in accreditation procedures, evaluation of academic programs, and
assessment of teaching and learning.
· Promote and lead efforts related to teaching excellence and leadership, including strategic
planning, implementation, and benchmarking.
· Promote, implement, and advance NMSU and College Diversity values and initiatives.
· Communicate and oversee university academic policy compliance.
· Manage the College’s scholarship programs.
· Coordinate fundraising activities with Alumni Relations and the NMSU Foundation.
· Oversees NMSU Rodeo Team staff and New Mexico FFA staff.
· Ensure that high quality IT, business, and other support services are provided for the
college.
· Promote and oversee development of NMSU Global programs in the College.
· Develop and manage articulation and dual credit agreements.
· Participate and conduct faculty and department administrators’ annual evaluations and
reviews.
· Assist the dean with college promotion and tenure reviews by coordinating and overseeing
the college P&T committee while elevating the P&T evaluation parameters in the college to
keep them higher or comparable with other land grant universities with R1 Carnegie ranking.
The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) has eight academic departments, spanning the breadth of production agriculture, natural resources management, economic and community development, food safety, and human health/nutrition. ACES oversees the New Mexico FFA Association's headquarters on the NMSU main campus and the NMSU Rodeo Club. Fourteen of the College’s 21 bachelor's degree programs are not offered anywhere else in New Mexico. Additionally, there are 5 doctoral and 14 Master's programs with more graduate programs in development. ACES also has five Extension specialist departments on the Las Cruces campus, and 34 Extension offices organized in three districts, and 12 Agricultural Science Centers, that reach every county of New Mexico.

· Use and appreciation of modern pedagogy.
· Demonstrated experience with a collective bargaining environment.
· Proficiency in conversational Spanish to facilitate effective communication with Spanish-
speaking stake holders.
