Classification Summary:
Analyzes performance and instructs student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition; observes players while they perform to determine need for individual or team improvement; and coaches players individually or in groups, demonstrating techniques.
Classification Standard Duties:
Assists head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition. Receives guidance and instruction from Head Coach and/or more senior coaches in general and specific coaching procedures, methods, and techniques. Assists with the design of workout programs and training routines to improve athletic performance. Assists as directed with implementing and supervising athletic training, strength, and conditioning workouts; provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport. Assists Head Coach, as directed, in conducting recruitment of student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules. Assists head coach in monitoring and assisting student-athletes in academic progress. Assists as appropriate in planning and arranging team travel; may coordinate personnel and equipment transportation and accommodations. May participate in various fundraising, marketing, and promotions activities. May perform administrative duties including ordering and maintaining equipment, monitoring budgets, and initiating correspondence. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education:Bachelor's degree; Required Experience:One (1) year of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Substantial directly related experience may substitute for degree required.; Required Certification/License:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of applicable team or individual sports and playing rules. Knowledge of NCAA recruiting rules. Knowledge of NCAA student-athlete academic eligibility requirements. Knowledge of strengthening and conditioning programs and routines.; SKILLS:Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty. Organizing and coordinating skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.; ABILITIES:Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to read and follow technical instructions and manuals.
