Position Title: CEMRC Radiation Specialist

Offsite Location (if applicable): Carlsbad, NM

Target Hourly/Salary Rate: Entry $43,908.80; commensurate with exp

Appointment Full-time Equivalency: 1.0

FLSA Status: Exempt

Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is NOT a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Contingent Upon Funding: Contingent upon external funding

Standard Work Schedule: Shift: Other Shift

If Not a Standard Work Schedule: Must come in 2-3 hours on weekends and holidays to ensure equipment is filled with liquid nitrogen.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities: This position will support the Internal Dosimetry (ID) research project which performs lung and whole body counts of area radiation workers for analyses. Analyze and interpret results as required by the statement of work provided by the funding agency. This position will run whole body counts as required under grant/contractual agreements and perform these duties as a qualified operator and technical staff member following the CEMRC Internal Dosimetry in-vivo radiobioassay procedures.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate’s Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Ability to assemble, repair, and modify scientific equipment. Ability to perform basic electrical and mechanical operations. Ability to perform preventative maintenance according to published guidelines and industry standards. Ability to read schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals. Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce life safety codes, industrial health standards, and environmental standards and procedures. Ability to supervise students and contractors and coordinate projects of varying complexity. Ability to troubleshoot technical equipment and problem-solve complex projects. Ability to use and operate a variety of hand, power, and machine tools to machine complex prototype laboratory devices from a variety of materials.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
