Advertising Summary: The New Mexico State University Department of Sociology is seeking three (3) full-time, 9-month, college-track assistant professors (non-tenure-track) who will assist in achieving the department’s teaching and service mission beginning in the Fall 2026 semester. These positions will work directly with the department head to teach a variety of sociology courses online. These positions have a 4/4 teaching load and include service to the department. Applicants must have a Master’s or Doctorate in Sociology or a closely related field, a minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in online instruction, and evidence of excellence in online teaching at the college or university level.
Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in at least three of the following areas: family, youth, education, crime and deviance, culture, sports, food, gender and sexuality, and/or medical sociology. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience developing online courses (such as through Quality Matters or similar frameworks) and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogy and active student engagement.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The faculty member must be able to provide high-quality instruction in the department’s undergraduate curriculum in an online format, including GE, and VWW courses. The faculty member will also participate in faculty governance, curriculum crating and review, student outcome assessment, and advisement of undergraduate students. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate a commitment to student success, student mentoring, and helping achieve the mission of the department, college, and university.
Required Education and Experience:
•Master’s or Doctorate in Sociology or a closely related field
•Demonstrated extensive experience with online instruction (minimum of three years)
•Evidence of excellence in online teaching at the college or university level
