Classification Summary:
The 4-H/Ag Agent provides leadership and guidance to Extension educational programs in agriculture, horticulture/ urban horticulture, 4-H and youth development, school enrichment, volunteerism, community and economic development, and natural resources throughout the county.

Classification Standard Duties:
CES programming to include 4-H and adults including adult and youth leaders

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Master's degree (in hand by hire date) required. At least one degree must be in
Agriculture or related field. Or may be under-filled as an Extension Associate I (rank of Instructor). Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field with a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher required. Must complete a master's degree within 5 years of hire date to remain employed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to relate effectively to people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, income and education levels in order to develop informal educational programs that meet their needs.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing as well as teach.
Ability to implement educational experiences for both youth and adults in furtherance of the mission of Extension required.
Ability to provide the leadership role in management of volunteer organizations including recruitment, training and support of volunteers.
Must have basic computer skills.
Must be able to drive and serve as youth chaperon at state 4-H events. Ability to work odd hours and weekends as necessary.
Ability to travel within county, state, and nationally to Extension and all 4-H related functions as necessary including occasional transporting and chaperoning of youth.
The Extension Agent is responsible to travel county wide via personal vehicle to execute educational programming to the stakeholders of New Mexico.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
*** THIS IS A NON TENURE TRACK POSITION ***
** POSITION IS LOCATED IN SANTA FE COUNTY, NM HEADQUARTERS IN SANTA FE, NM. **
Successful candidate will: Provide leadership and guidance to Extension educational programs for adults and youth including 4-H and youth, special interest groups, adult and youth leaders and the public throughout the county as the job requires.
Collaborate with youth serving community organizations and agencies to help further Extension 4-H Youth Development programs.
Support annual County Fair efforts.
Recruit, train and support volunteer adult and youth leaders.
Team with other Extension Agents in the county and district and with State Specialists, District Department Head and Administrators in planning and implementing total Extension programs. Maintain a favorable public image and gain acceptance for self, Extension and New Mexico State University among the county citizens.
Administratively responsible to the County Program Director and through him/her to the Northern District Department Head.
Provide timely reports as required.
Promote CES programs within the district to meet the LEADS 2025 Equity, Inclusion and Diversity goals prioritizing the program expansion to non-traditional demographics.
Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS)
The Extension Agent is responsible to travel county wide via personal vehicle to execute educational programming to the stakeholders of New Mexico.

Special Requirements of the Position
Must live in county where employed and be willing to travel and work odd hours as needed to support the program. Personal auto required, reimbursed at IRS rant per mile. Valid Driver's License required.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
