Bargaining Unit Announcement: This is a bargaining unit position with American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

Standard Work Schedule: Standard (M-F, 8-5)

Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Performs general facilities maintenance and repairs, including patching, painting, minor plumbing repairs, and lighting maintenance.
- Maintains and repairs floors, carpeting, and ceilings throughout assigned buildings.
- Installs whiteboards, tack boards, plaques, picture frames, and signage in classrooms, offices, and administrative areas.
- Maintains, repairs, and replaces furniture as needed, including classroom tables and chairs and office furniture.
- Identifies and troubleshoots maintenance issues, notifying the manager or assistant manager so vendor repairs can be arranged when needed.
- Assists the HVAC Lead and HVAC Techs with HVAC repairs and maintenance, including quarterly filter replacement and other minor repairs as directed by the manager.
- Supports preventive maintenance tasks and routine equipment checks to help maintain system reliability.
- Supports the Facilities Locksmith with door and door hardware repair, removal, and installation, as well as maintenance of door closers and ADA operators.
- Assists the campus community with various activities and special events, including but not limited to: graduation, golf tournaments, and career fairs. Supports these by providing setup, support, and other logistical assistance as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
High School diploma + 1 years of relevant experience, or higher degree.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Five years experience or more in the construction industry including knowledge of various trades such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and HVAC.

Special Certification/Licensure: 
Able to obtain valid NMSU driving permit

 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
