New Mexico State University Global Campus seeks two Senior Financial Aid Advisors to serve as the primary resource for financial aid eligibility, compliance, and funding opportunities while leading financial aid operations, including application processing, appeals, policy implementation, staff supervision, training, and cross-departmental collaboration to support student success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Serves as the primary financial aid advisor and point of contact for prospective, current, and former students—both undergraduate and graduate—regarding all financial aid opportunities, including federal grants, loans, work-study, state, institutional, and private scholarships. Assesses federal, state, and institutional eligibility for financial aid and scholarship programs, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and university policies and procedures in the review, analysis, and processing of financial aid applications and related documents. Provides comprehensive financial aid and scholarship consulting services, exercising professional judgment in complex cases, including Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) issues, mitigating circumstances, and appeals. Develops academic plans and recommends solutions for students to maintain or regain eligibility. Presents financial aid information to individuals and groups through workshops, orientations, entrance/exit interviews, and campus/community events. Leads policy research, implementation, documentation, and training of financial aid regulations and procedures across the NMSU system. Directs, delegates, and supervises the work of assigned staff, including 4-5 exempt staff members.
Provides leadership in staff training, procedural updates, and onboarding for new hires. Oversees the coordination and delivery of training on procedural changes and updates. Responds to complaints, grievances, and inquiries from students, parents, and other stakeholders by researching and resolving issues related to financial aid and scholarships. In the absence of the Associate Director, leads appeal committees and makes recommendations regarding the financial aid eligibility of students with mitigating circumstances. Coordinates or manages one or more specific administrative programs or service areas, as assigned, ensuring accurate data collection, management, and reporting to meet departmental objectives. Participates in the review and adjudication of financial aid and scholarship appeals, making adjustments or recalculations as needed. Reviews financial documents, including loan-related paperwork, for accuracy and provides signature approval/disapproval as appropriate. Collaborates with other departments to resolve operational issues, providing referrals for crisis intervention as needed. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
Experience with adult and online learners.
Experience leading teams in fast-paced financial aid and student service environments

Technical Connectivity Requirements:
For roles that use call systems or provide synchronous support, employees must maintain a stable, low-latency internet connection capable of supporting continuous voice communications without interruption. Wired Ethernet is strongly preferred due to its reliability and call quality. Equivalent wired or business-grade connections may be acceptable if they meet all performance and stability requirements. These requirements are subject to reasonable accommodation in accordance with applicable law. Consumer Wi-Fi–only connections (without a hardwired device connection) are not accepted.
