Summary:  New Mexico State University’s Global Campus seeks a Financial Aid Advisor, Sr who will serve as the primary financial aid resource for students, overseeing advising, compliance, and staff leadership while ensuring timely and accurate processing of all aid programs. This position follows a Tuesday–Saturday schedule and may be eligible for an alternative work arrangement.

Classification Summary:
Responsible for an on-going specialized function such as Federal Regulatory Compliance Monitoring or Scholarship Coordination. Provides support and guidance as a student's single point of contact for all matters related to financial aid opportunities, including but not limited to federal grants, loans, work study, and state, institutional and private scholarships. Follows federal and state regulations and NMSU policies and procedures in the review and analysis of financial aid applications. Acts as an advisor to students, potential students and families, enforces regulations and policies, serves on appeal committee, creates academic plans for students with Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) issues and recommends solutions on how to improve their status. Effectively presents federal, state and scholarship aid information to individuals, small and large groups. Leads policy research, implementation, documentation, and training for entire NMSU-system.

Classification Standard Duties:
Meets with students, prospective students, families and community groups to provide information on all available federal, state and scholarship funds, eligibility criteria for each and the application procedures. Perform need analysis according to federal Title IV methodology, review and verify accuracy of applications and complete the packaging of awards for eligible applications. Revise existing awards to reflect changes in eligibility or allowable budget adjustments. Exercise professional judgement in adjusting a student's application to accommodate documented, qualifying special circumstances. Maintains proactive contact with students and creates solutions to potential setbacks that may affect student retention and works collaboratively with other departments to address and/or resolve issues. Participates in the development, implementation, documentation and training of departmental procedures, as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Extensive knowledge of all types of student aid, and associated regulations, requirement and application processes.; SKILLS:Demonstrated skill in personal computing, including Microsoft Office products.Research and interview techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying and interpreting factual information.Demonstrated skill in using initiative and resourcefulness to plan work assignments and implement long-range goal planning.; ABILITIES:To access specialized systems related to the awarding, disbursement and reporting of student aid. To accurately interpret and make recommendations for implementation of federal, state, institutional and private rules and regulations. To build and maintain excellent working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students and general public. To exercise professional judgement in line with federal and state regulatory guidelines.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as the primary financial aid advisor and point of contact for prospective, current, and former students—both undergraduate and graduate—regarding all financial aid opportunities, including federal grants, loans, work-study, state, institutional, and private scholarships. Assesses federal, state, and institutional eligibility for financial aid and scholarship programs, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and university policies and procedures in the review, analysis, and processing of financial aid applications and related documents. Provides comprehensive financial aid and scholarship consulting services, exercising professional judgment in complex cases, including Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) issues, mitigating circumstances, and appeals. Develops academic plans and recommends solutions for students to maintain or regain eligibility. Presents financial aid information to individuals and groups through workshops, orientations, entrance/exit interviews, and campus/community events. Leads policy research, implementation, documentation, and training of financial aid regulations and procedures across the NMSU system. Directs, delegates, and supervises the work of assigned staff, including 4-5 exempt staff members.
Provides leadership in staff training, procedural updates, and onboarding for new hires. Oversees the coordination and delivery of training on procedural changes and updates. Responds to complaints, grievances, and inquiries from students, parents, and other stakeholders by researching and resolving issues related to financial aid and scholarships. In the absence of the Associate Director, leads appeal committees and makes recommendations regarding the financial aid eligibility of students with mitigating circumstances. Coordinates or manages one or more specific administrative programs or service areas, as assigned, ensuring accurate data collection, management, and reporting to meet departmental objectives. Participates in the review and adjudication of financial aid and scholarship appeals, making adjustments or recalculations as needed. Reviews financial documents, including loan-related paperwork, for accuracy and provides signature approval/disapproval as appropriate. Collaborates with other departments to resolve operational issues, providing referrals for crisis intervention as needed. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
