Summary: Our lab is involved in many collaborative efforts with pecan trees including genome sequencing efforts for mapping and ultimately marker development. We are also collaborating on evaluating the diversity of pecan through its native region and involved in genome wide association studies.
Classification Summary:
Coordinates operational activities in a research/instructional laboratory, providing support services to faculty, students, researchers and technicians. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratory and compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and standards. Coordinates the ordering, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the lab.
Classification Standard Duties:
Plans and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the laboratory. Assists with the development of quality standards and programs; monitors and maintains quality of laboratory operations and performance of laboratory staff in compliance with accreditation standards, safety and environmental regulations, and other applicable requirements. Provides technical expertise to researchers and may teach and/or train others in research methods and laboratory procedures. Assists in ordering, care, maintenance, and utilization of department equipment, supplies, and inventories. Maintains and/or oversees maintenance of test equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and efficient performance. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of laboratory facilities and/or equipment. Knowledge of the principles and procedures of laboratory instruction and/or clinical research. Knowledge of laboratory operations and/or procedures. Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards. Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures.; SKILLS:Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Employee development and performance management skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to develop and follow instructional and/or research methodology and protocol. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Job Duties and Responsibilities
The lab coordinator position will design and perform experiments. The coordinator will also analyze data and assist in writing manuscripts. The coordinator will assist in coordinating student schedules and will help train undergraduate and graduate students in basic !ab skills. The coordinator will oversee clonal tissue culture and media making and will oversee the greenhouse and pecan clonal transplants. Write standard operating procedures. Help coordinate lab meetings, the use of lab equipment, maintain RO/DI units and other instrumentation. Help maintain lab safety by keeping track of chemical inventory and personnel safety courses. Maintain inventory for the lab for plant care and experiments, track credit card expenditures.
