Classification Summary:
Develops and implements maintenance plans and schedules. Oversees turf care, irrigation systems, and landscaping activities. Ensures compliance with golf course standards and regulations. Coordinates equipment maintenance and repairs. Supervises and trains golf course maintenance staff.
Classification Standard Duties:
Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of golf course maintenance equipment. Works with manager to prioritize equipment repair and maintenance work. Keeps all equipment in working order, fueled, oiled and performs related tasks as needed. Sharpens mowers with grinders.
Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed. Repairs and adjusts engines and cutting mechanisms on various heavy and light mowing equipment.
Maintain and keep service, repair and usage records of preventative maintenance schedule. Establish safety procedures and maintain safety records for equipment operation. Coordinates all necessary preventative maintenance and repairs around mowing schedules and equipment usage. Develops and implements a preventative schedule for inspecting, adjusting, troubleshooting and repairing all golf maintenance equipment.
Maintains proper inventory levels of parts, fluids, oils, etc. Responsible for ordering parts and equipment as it pertains to preventative maintenance and repairs. Tracks purchases and related expenses as it pertains to the shop and all equipment repairs. Advises manager regarding major equipment failures and/or replacement needs. Recommends equipment purchases.
Assists manager during annual operating and capital budget preparation process.
Supervises employees in the absence of the golf course superintendent and assistant superintendent. Supervises employees on special projects as directed by manager and performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience: Six (6) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of repair and maintenance of grounds equipment and small engines.; SKILLS:Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools. Skill in the use of gas and electric welding equipment. Skill in the use of mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists. Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.; ABILITIES:Ability to provide work direction to others. Ability to effectively communicate.

Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Demonstrate to staff the use of new equipment and train staff in safe operation and proper care/maintenance of assigned equipment.
Coordinates all necessary preventative maintenance and repairs around mowing schedules and equipment usage.
Operated equipment to insure it is working properly and helps with maintenance of the golf course as needed.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
