Job Duties and Responsibilities: Applies paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to equipment, buildings, bridges, and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns, or rollers. Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats. Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies. Fills nail holes, joints, and cracks in walls with plaster or other filler. Covers surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and removes fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, lamps, and electric switch covers prior to painting. Calculates amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements and/or work orders. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Requisitions new painting supplies and equipment. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to subordinate group.

High School diploma + 1 years of relevant experience, or higher degree.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements: i.e. extreme temp, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, other potentially dangerous materials/situations that require safety precaution/protective equip

Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
