Summary:  We are seeking a Professor of Practice to design and deliver dynamic online courses focused on hands-on, application-based learning. In this role, you'll collaborate with industry leaders to ensure our curriculum stays at the forefront of emerging technologies and workforce demands.

Classification Summary:
Department of Engineering Technology and Surveying Engineering (ETSE) in the College of Engineering at the New Mexico State University (NMSU), the State’s Land Grant University. The ETSE Department offers five Bachelor degree programs, including the Bachelor in Information and Communication Technology. ETSE also provides a professional Master of Information Technology Degree. The ETSE Department is committed to having student-centered, hands-on programs that offer program graduates relevant technical experience.

In conjunction with NMSU Global, ETSE is seeking to fill a 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position as Professor of Practice.

Classification Standard Duties:
Faculty in this position play a central role in delivering high-quality, online education and advancing the department’s mission through teaching, curriculum innovation, and service. Responsibilities include designing, delivering, and continuously improving online courses that align with best practices in digital pedagogy, evolving industry standards, and the department's emphasis on hands-on application. Faculty collaborate with peers and industry partners to update and refine curricula, ensuring that academic programs remain responsive to emerging trends and technologies, particularly in information technology and distance education. Contributions to program-level assessment, accreditation, and alignment with learning outcomes are essential, as is engagement in professional development to stay current in the field. While not research-focused, faculty are encouraged to pursue applied research and scholarly activities that enhance instructional quality and support workforce-relevant learning. Additional responsibilities include participating in departmental and college service activities, contributing to outreach and industry engagement efforts, and supporting the development of external funding opportunities as appropriate. These activities collectively strengthen the department’s commitment to accessible, innovative, and career-relevant distance education.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Master’s or higher degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Enterprise Systems Engineering, or a closely related field (in hand by hiring date) and five years of relevant, applied Information Technology work experience in an industrial environment are required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty in this position are responsible for designing, developing, and delivering engaging online courses that incorporate hands-on, application-based learning and reflect best practices in digital pedagogy. They work collaboratively with faculty peers and industry partners to update and improve curricula, ensuring alignment with emerging technologies and workforce needs in the information technology field. Faculty foster student engagement and success through proactive communication, inclusive course design, and the creation of supportive virtual learning communities. They contribute to program-level assessment, curriculum mapping, and accreditation processes to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with learning outcomes. While research is not a required component of this role, faculty are encouraged to engage in applied scholarship that enhances instruction or supports program relevance. Ongoing professional development is expected to maintain expertise in both subject matter and online instructional methods. Additional responsibilities include participating in departmental and college service activities, supporting strategic initiatives, engaging with industry and community partners, and contributing to the pursuit of external funding when appropriate.
