Summary:  We're seeking a Professor of Practice to join our Geomatics program. This 9-month, non-tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor of Practice, emphasizes effective teaching and curriculum development.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Teaching engaging courses in geomatics.

Developing new coursework to keep our curriculum current.

Advising students and fostering their academic and professional growth.

Contributing to service activities within the department, college, university, and professional community.

Staying informed on emerging technologies and industry trends in geomatics.

Classification Summary:

Our current faculty are deeply committed to advancing the field of geomatics through innovative teaching. This is a non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Practice.

This hire marks an exciting phase of expansion for our Geomatics Program. Once this position is filled, we plan to add a full-time college instructor to further strengthen our team and enhance our program offerings. Classification Standard Duties:
Successful candidates will be expected to actively contribute to the mission of the Engineering Technology and Survey Engineering Department through excellence in teaching and dedicated service. This position involves a primary focus on teaching, comprising 85%-90% of the workload, with faculty typically teaching 9-12 credit hours per semester. The remaining 10%-15% of the workload is dedicated to service responsibilities.

Faculty members have the opportunity to engage in research pursuits, with the expectation that these efforts lead to external funding and impactful publications in peer-reviewed venues. Service responsibilities include providing academic advising and mentorship to students, as well as contributing to the department, college, and university through various service initiatives. This role is an integral part of shaping the department’s future and supporting its vibrant academic community.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Masters Degree in surveying, geomatics, geodetic science, geospatial, geoinformatics or related disciplines. PhD in Civil Engineering with a focus on geomatics or related fields. Professional surveying licensure is desirable but not mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated expertise in fundamental concepts, principles, and applications of geomatics, including geodesy, photogrammetry, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), terrestrial laser scanning, airborne LiDAR and surveying. Candidates with experience in boundary surveying, public land surveying system (PLSS), spatial data adjustment, and legal principles and boundary law will be given strong consideration. Proficiency in utilizing relevant software and hardware tools for teaching, research, and service, such as GIS software, remote sensing software, surveying equipment, and programming languages. Familiarity with research methodologies, including literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and scholarly writing. Ability to develop and deliver engaging lectures, conduct effective laboratory sessions, and mentor students. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders. Ability to identify and solve complex problems in geomatics and surveying. Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work effectively with diverse individuals and teams.Time management skills to balance teaching, and service responsibilities. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical conduct.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The selected individual will be responsible for teaching courses in the geomatics program. This position emphasizes effective teaching, requiring the development and delivery of engaging and relevant coursework. The faculty member will also contribute to the creation of new courses, ensuring the curriculum remains current with advancements in geomatics and related fields. Additionally, the individual will provide academic advising to students, supporting their educational and professional growth while fostering a strong connection between students and the program.

The successful candidate will participate in service activities that benefit the department, college, university, and the broader professional community. This includes collaboration with colleagues on program development, participation in departmental governance, and involvement in outreach efforts to promote the geomatics program. Staying informed about emerging technologies and industry trends is essential. This is a 9-month Non tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant to Associate Professor of Practice, offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. Employment is contingent upon eligibility for work and the successful completion of applicable background checks.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
