Summary: The Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department within the College of Health, Education, and Social Transformation is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in Chicana/o/Latinx Studies to begin Fall 2025. Classification Summary:
The Borderlands and Ethnic Studies Department is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor in Ethnic Studies with an emphasis in Chicana/o/Latinx Studies to begin Fall 2025.
Classification Standard Duties:
Teach in-person undergraduate courses; contribute to curriculum-building conversations rooted in the field and areas of study; advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; participate in service activities and department events; contribute to public-facing teaching, research, and service as part of relationship building with colleagues and community.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, Native American Studies, or related field of study
Three or more years of teaching experience in higher education
Ability to teach “Introduction to Native American Studies”
Ability to teach General Ethnic Studies courses at undergraduate and graduate levels
Evidence of community-connected, place-based, land-based work
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency teaching and communicating with colleagues and students via electronic and digital modalities
Proficiency in Canvas or other Learning Management System. - Proficiency with student advisement/information systems (e.g. Degree Audit and Banner).
Strong, critical verbal and written communication skills
Able to have critical conversations to advance relational curriculum development
Ability to adapt to new and changing processes and technologies
