New Mexico State University’s Global Campus seeks two Academic Advisors to guide and support adult learners, promoting retention, persistence, and overall student success. The position includes managing a caseload, collaborating across departments, and using technology to enhance the student experience. Under the general supervision of NMSU Global Campus and the daily work direction of the Associate Director for Academic Online Advising, the incumbent will advise and support NMSU Global students to ensure the retention, persistence, and success of the students in the program. This position works collaboratively with other departments to support enrollment, program development, and overall student success for adult learners. Responsibilities include assessing the need for academic support services and monitoring the progress of an assigned caseload of students.
The Advisor also provides support services for new students, including orientation programs, academic prep programs, assessment and referral for basic skills course work and learning assistance services. The incumbent will work closely with faculty and other departments to accomplish program goals.
Uses strong critical-thinking skills to help a diverse population of adult learners overcome a myriad of obstacles to fulfill their educational objectives. Ideal candidates enjoy working in a high energy, fast-paced environment that relies heavily on technology, demonstrates enthusiasm and initiative, possesses excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish rapport with students. Individuals should provide exceptional service to every student and team member during each interaction.
Key Accountabilities Include:
Achieves KPI’s like persistence, retention, graduation, and student engagement utilizing preferred communication methods, and service level achievement. Improves quality of student interaction and engagement by sharing feedback from students. Provides service information by answering questions and helping connect students with appropriate experts.
Ensure policies and procedures are complied with. Contact and meet with new and continuing students, resulting in increased enrollment. Provide students with information and resources to promote academic progress. Stay informed of current and changing rules, regulations and program requirements. Record interactions with students in Navigate and other tools.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree + 2 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree.

For roles that use call systems or provide synchronous support, employees must maintain a stable, low-latency internet connection capable of supporting continuous voice communications without interruption. Wired Ethernet is strongly preferred due to its reliability and call quality. Equivalent wired or business-grade connections may be acceptable if they meet all performance and stability requirements.
