Classification Summary:
Plans, directs and coordinates the overall delivery of services for core auxiliary service operations of the university, including Housing and Residential Life, Special Events, Golf Course, Corbett Center Student Union, Food Services, ID Card Services, Conference Services, Mail Services, Bookstore, Storage Units and Transportation/Parking. Position leads the unit and sets goals and objectives that produce a service-oriented culture consistent with university mission and strategic goals. Position serves as a member of the Administration and Finance leadership team and interacts with senior leadership of the university.
Classification Standard Duties:
Develop, recommend, and monitor necessary policy and procedure as related to each area of responsibility. Oversees senior staff responsible for an annual revenue budget of approximately $25.5 million. Supervise contracts administration of external vendors generating annual revenue of approximately $20 million, including addressing all customer service issues with all vendors providing auxiliary services to university community. Implements administrative procedures and systems to carry out service-oriented objectives. Prepares and analyzes reports relative to the financial and operating performance of revenue operations. Participates in campus community relations by representing department at meetings and serving on committees as needed. Position requires a blend of technical and interpersonal skills.

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge and understanding of the mission, goals, organization, and operational/financial infrastructure of auxiliary services in a public university. Knowledge and understanding of institutional policies and procedures and the regulatory environment within which they operate.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strategic planning skills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision making skills. Organizational planning, structuring, and staffing skills.; ABILITIES:Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals. Ability to review and assess the operational and financial viability of new and existing contractual arrangements. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President for Administration and Finance, the Assistant Vice President for Auxiliary Services must be a hand on professional, with a diverse set of skill sets. Auxiliary Services touches every student and employee on a regular basis, as well as visitors to the campus. The Auxiliary Operations Officer leads NMSU’s auxiliary business services, with some being directly managed, (Parking Services, Corbett Student Union and Golf Course Operations), and others, including Housing, Dining Operations, Bookstore and Events are managed via third-party service providers. Serve as primary point of contact for contracted services to ensure adherence to service levels and contract terms. Ensure fiscal responsibility and accountability for business operations and asset management. Promote and enforce university policies, procedures, controls and compliance with standards and regulations. Foster an environment that supports collaboration, safety, and customer service. Assist units with goal achievements and continuous improvement.
