Classification Summary:
Leads custodians in performing custodial cleaning assignments.

Classification Standard Duties:
Coordinates the activities of subordinates, Assigns and inspects the work activities of a group of custodial employees. Schedules and inspects the work of floor cleaning, window cleaning and other special crews. Coordinates the physical preparation for concerts, dances, registration and other special events held at the university. Recommends purchase of cleaning equipment and materials and maintains a supply storeroom. Recommends new methods to promote efficiency and reduce costs; initiates training programs for custodial employees. Participates in cleaning activities. Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:None; Required Experience:Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards.; SKILLS:Skill in coordinating the work activities of assigned staff. Skill in using cleaning products and equipment.; ABILITIES:Ability to effectively communicate.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The ability to lead and direct other custodial staff in the standard duties assigned to their areas. General custodial and cleaning maintenance in an Educational Institution setting that includes general cleaning, disinfecting, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping. empty trash, clean marker boards, tables and chairs in preparation for start of classes. Cleaning and disinfecting of restrooms, water fountains and other high traffic "touch points" for general public health safety. Participate as directed by supervisor in team cleaning events and special event set up. Attend regular training and safety classes as directed by supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the use of commercial cleaning machines, like scrubbers, carpet extractors and water pick up machines. Knowledge of product ordering with minimal supervision. Have knowledge in basic computer skills.

If Not a Standard Work Schedule: Depending on current staff, assignment hours may be from 5am-2pm or 7am-4pm.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk: Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
