Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Library Director plays a dynamic leadership role, guiding a team of library professionals with vision and purpose, serving the diverse students, faculty, and staff of Doña Ana Community College, part of the New Mexico State University System. This position oversees all aspects of the operations of 2 full-service library locations and 2 limited service locations, as well as staffing-from recruitment and onboarding to performance evaluation and professional growth-while fostering a collaborative work environment. As an advocate for the library's mission and services, the Director builds strong relationships with campus leadership and stakeholders, championing the library's essential role in academic success. By partnering with faculty, academic departments, and student support teams, they help elevate learning outcomes and ensure the library remains a vital, evolving hub of intellectual engagement. The Director coordinates and delivers robust reference services both in-person and online, supporting research and learning across disciplines. Through thoughtful planning and continuous assessment, the Director drives the development of innovative research support services and information resources.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervise, direct, delegate and evaluate the work of library staff
• Oversee selection, acquisition, management, and function of print, media and electronic collections
• Provide direction for the Information Literacy Instruction program, while adhering to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy. Ensure Information Literacy Instruction is available to students, faculty and staff in formats suitable to class, group, operational, or individual needs
• Management of integrated library systems; integrate technology into library operations and services. Basic understanding of remote access technologies and authentication processes
• Develop and strengthen interlibrary cooperation with other NMSU System libraries, other libraries in the county, and academic institutions across New Mexico.
• Ensures that reference services are available and circulation activities and other library functions are effectively performed during the hours of library operation
• Ensures appropriate preservation of essential data and records and completes annual surveys as required (ACRL).
• Conducts short- and long-term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentations; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written.
• Supervises the timely and accurate processing, cataloguing and circulation of library resources
• Prepares and recommends budget based on current and future needs and the requirements of effective operation
• Works with library staff to develop library goals, objectives, and methods for achieving the mission of the library
• Responsible for ensuring adherence to applicable federal and state laws, and college requirements, policies and procedures within their area of authority
• Works with college staff to determine learning resource needs and collection development activities; participates or makes assignments to appropriate college committees
• Ensures that required reports for federal and state agencies and for internal needs are completed accurately and in a timely manner
• Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in library science and operations; requests appropriate personal professional development
• Maintains communications and membership as appropriate with professional associations
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned

• Proven leadership experience in academic libraries or related educational settings.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex operations and lead teams.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Comprehensive familiarity with the current trends in academic libraries, digital scholarship, and student learning support.
• Experience with strategic planning, assessment, and advocacy in higher education environments.

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 
Master’s Degree in Library Science + 5 years of relevant experience

Equivalent Qualifications: 

Preferred Qualifications: 
• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA certified program preferred
• Minimum of five years of progressively more responsible experience in an academic library,
• Experience with an automated library system
• Experience in Information Literacy Instruction
• Ability to effectively supervise and direct both skilled professionals and paraprofessional staff
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with college students, faculty, staff and administration
• Excellent communication and listening skills
