Job Duties and Responsibilities: Performs operation and maintenance of the campus steam, chilled water, and electricity production systems. Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls; Performs HVAC system inspections and manufacture-recommended preventive maintenance; Performs major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators; Performs seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa; Monitors and adjusts system set points and output using remote computer links to the building's programmable logic controls; Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience: 
High School diploma or higher degree.

Special Certification/Licensure: 
Requires a NM Journeyman's Refrigeration License able to obtain a New Mexico license within a year from date of hire. Must possess an EPA Universal Refrigerant Handler Card.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Physical Effort: Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.

Lifting Requirements: Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.

Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
