Classification Summary:
Key Responsibilities
• Instruction: Teach 30 credit hours per academic year in areas such as visual communication, graphic design principles, UI/UX design, digital illustration, page layout, history of graphic arts and motion graphics. Courses may be delivered in-person, online, or in hybrid formats, and may require teaching at various times and locations.
• Curriculum Development: Collaborate with department faculty and leadership to develop, revise, and update curriculum to meet industry standards and student needs.
• Student Engagement: Advise, mentor, and provide timely, constructive feedback to students, supporting their academic and professional growth in accordance with DACC policies.
• Professional Participation: Serve on departmental, divisional, and college committees, advisory councils, task forces, and working groups.
• Professional Development: Maintain currency in the field through ongoing professional development and scholarly activities.
• Office Hours: Maintain a minimum of five office hours per week as required by college policy to support and advise students.
• Additional Duties: Advise student clubs and organizations and perform other related duties as assigned.
Classification Standard Duties:
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a closely related creative media field (degree must be completed by the date of hire).
• At least three years of relevant professional experience in graphic design, commercial art, and/or multimedia within the past five years.
• Demonstrated expertise in visual communication, graphic design principles, UI/UX design, and the history of graphic arts. Please provide URL to professional online portfolio.
• Proficiency with industry standard software, including Adobe: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Xd, Acrobat, Portfolio, etc.

Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s degree in graphic design, Art, or a related field.
• Teaching experience at the community college or post-secondary level in graphic design, motion graphics, photography, or web design.
• Experience with instructional technology, online teaching, and distance learning platforms like Canvas.
• Experience in curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and continuous improvement of instructional effectiveness.
• Commitment to DACC’s teaching philosophy, which emphasizes student success through active learning and faculty engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, staff, supervisors, and community partners.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is considered an asset.
