Summary:  Join our team as a Chemistry Assistant Professor at NMSU Grants Community College. We seek a passionate educator to teach Introductory and General Chemistry, including labs, in varied instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid, online). Responsibilities include creating engaging lab experiences, supporting curriculum development, advising students, and participating in professional development and campus governance.

Classification Summary:
• Teach Introductory and General Chemistry (with labs) in various instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid, or online).
• Create and implement laboratory experiences for students that facilitate the demonstration and evaluation of learning outcomes in a safe and sustainable environment.
• Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to meet the diverse learners an promote students’ critical thinking skills.
• Develop instructional material consistent with course objectives.
• Support program functions such as textbook selection, curriculum development, and other program needs requiring faculty input.
• Teach and support the development of specialty courses (non-credit based options, dual credit classes, or accelerated courses)
• Provide regular and predictable access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods.
• Instruct, assist, and motivate students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed feedback on assignments and discussions.
• Advise and assist students in planning an educational pathway and selecting courses, and when necessary refer students to appropriate student services for assistance.
• Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and be a positive contributing member of the campus community.
• Represent and promote the Natural Science Program at system-wide and state meetings as well as in the community.
• Develop, communicate, and utilize a student assessment process, which are related to the learning outcomes for all courses.
• Engage in regular professional development.
• Work effectively within the college, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. Actively participate in college governance and committees, contributing to committee work and college service activities as per NMSU Administrative Rules and Procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Campus Executive & Academic Officer

Classification Standard Duties:

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
• Master’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field with 18 graduate credit hours in Chemistry or Bio-chemistry from a regionally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to teach Chemistry AND another natural science area (Astronomy, Biology, Environmental Science, Physics, Geology or Mathematics).
Experience teaching at the community college level.
Experience teaching online using CANVAS learning management systems or similar LMS.
Experience working with students from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort: Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds or some standing or walking.

Risk: Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
