Summary: Join our team as a Lead HVAC Mechanic! Lead and mentor HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics, manage schedules, and ensure high-quality system maintenance. Requires 8 years of experience, EPA Universal Card, and NM Journeyman's License.
Classification Summary:
Leads the work of journeyman level HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and Trades Helpers and participates in the repair, maintenance, inspection and installation of systems and journeyman level crafts projects at the level for which they are licensed. Responsible for scheduling work across multiple locations and/or buildings.
Classification Standard Duties:
Performs, assigns and inspects the work of HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and trades helpers; initiates corrective actions to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion. Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules and procedures for equipment maintenance. Develops a maintenance plan for a wide variety of equipment, prioritizing according to program needs. Maintains time, payroll and material records; submits reports. Determines material and labor estimates. Assists in performance evaluation process. Participates in maintenance, repair and installation duties in the trades.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education:High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience:Eight (8) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency:Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:Must possess a current EPA Universal Refrigerant Handler Card and a New Mexico Journeyman’s Refrigeration License. Possession of a valid driver’s license is a requirement for this position.

KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the trade. Knowledge of all applicable codes, standards and regulations. Knowledge of best practices in supervising trades personnel.; SKILLS:Skill in installation, repair and maintenance of all systems and assignments common to the trade. Skill in estimating time and material requirements for work projects.; ABILITIES:Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Lead HVAC Mechanic oversees and leads the work of journeyman-level HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanics and Trades Helpers, ensuring efficient and timely completion of projects. This role is responsible for scheduling work across multiple locations, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring high-quality standards are met. Key responsibilities include assigning and inspecting work, initiating corrective actions, planning and developing work schedules, and establishing procedures for equipment maintenance. The Lead HVAC Mechanic will also develop maintenance plans, track time, payroll, and material records, and submit regular reports. Additional duties include estimating material and labor requirements, assisting in performance evaluations, and participating in hands-on maintenance, repair, and installation tasks as needed.
