Summary: NMSU Grants was established as a branch of New Mexico State University in 1968 through the cooperative efforts of New Mexico State University and Grants Municipal Schools. As a two-year branch community college, NMSU Grants serves the local communities in Cibola and McKinley counties, including the Pueblos of Acoma, Laguna, and Zuni, as well as Tohajiilee, San Mateo, San Rafael, Cubero, the City of Grants, and the Village of Milan.
Classification Summary:
Collect, extract, analyze and communicate institutional data to constituents throughout the university community to support and enhance informed decision-making, strategic planning, policy development, and institutional self-assessment. Conduct detailed research and data analysis and covert analytical results into consumer reports. Assist in design and maintenance of information systems and databases to support institutional research activities. Prepare graphical and numerical data displays for optimum data understanding by constituents.
Classification Standard Duties:
Develop, and maintain longitudinal data sets, verifying accuracy and consistency over time, in the context of evolving requirements regarding reporting institutional data. . Understand and identify university data, and gather, manipulate, and analyze data as necessary through SAS or other SQL programming tools. Interpret analyses and prepare formal research reports. Prepare graphical and numerical data displays for optimum data understanding by constituents. Review and understand instructions from internal and external sources and surveys, gather pertinent data, and work with internal teams to deliver research and analysis results on topics such as enrollment statistics, employee statistics, retention and graduation statistics, and financial aid and finance-related statistics. Assist with a wide variety of survey research efforts including survey construction, development of survey instruments, deployment of surveys, analysis of results, and construction of survey reports. Work with other institutional research staff to coordinate work and provide technical assistance, as assigned. May provide functional direction to lower level technicians on assigned work. Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE:Intermediate knowledge of SAS, SPSS, or similar SQL programming language to manipulate, analyze, and produce reports from multiple, large, complex databases. Basic to intermediate knowledge of statistical concepts, protocol, and procedures. Intermediate knowledge of PC spreadsheet programs such as MS Excel, report production software (such as MS Word, MS Publisher, InDesign), and presentation software (such as MS Powerpoint) Basic knowledge of PC management. Basic to intermediate knowledge of survey software (such as Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey) Basic knowledge of current topics in higher education.; SKILLS:Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and professionally with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.; ABILITIES:Intermediate to advanced ability to manipulate, evaluate and analyze data. Strong ability to communicate effectively and to convert analytical results into consumer reports. Ability to complete assignments quickly and accurately, with attention to detail. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, function as part of a team, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Work with leadership and departments to develop and implement a dynamic campus assessment program. This includes capturing data from advising, student use of resources, student course data, to support the campus’s strategic plan. The position works closely with administration to inform operational decisions.
Oversee all data collection, tracking, reporting, and analysis for a two-year public open admissions college. Using multifaceted approaches and tools to analyze and communicate complex data, the Institutional Researcher is responsible for providing senior leaders with strategic information that can be used to shape institutional planning, policy formation, and decision making in support of the College’s mission, including institutional effectiveness, accountability, grant support, assessment, program review, budget analysis data, and enrollment. Promotes, nurtures, and maintains an internal culture of evidence where data, analysis, and reports are used to make the college more effective for faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Ensures compliance with national, state, regional accreditation, and NMSU external accountability reporting requirements. Initiates development of tools to provide a reliable source for college information and data in order to enhance timely and effective communication.
Collect and analyze data used for institutional planning, institutional effectiveness, student success, student learning outcomes assessment, accreditation, and decision making. Standardize reporting of key performance measures and student achievement measures for state and national benchmarks. Collect and analyze data to support grant applications and current grants. Participate in professional organizations, e.g., New Mexico Association of Institutional Research. Provide data to the college’s HLC accreditation liaison officer for annual institutional data reports, outcomes and assessment, data management, and data analysis and interpretation for assessment activities. Coordinate internal and external requests to complete surveys/questionnaires for IPEDS, College Board, New Mexico Higher Education Department, HLC, and other general institutional profiles and reports. Serve on Standing Committee to work and related activities among other duties as may be assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a research related field such as statistics, data analytics, information systems, education, or social science research.
Experience working at a community college.
Knowledge of SAS and PowerBI
